Baby M Birth Story | McCall Idaho Birth Photographer

Wow, where to even begin... I recently had the incredible honor of photographing a beautiful birth story for a sweet baby boy here in McCall. From the quiet anticipation before his arrival to the overwhelming joy that filled the room when he took his first breath, every moment was nothing short of absolutely amazing. Capturing the strength and love shared between this husband and wife team during such an intimate and powerful experience was truly magical. Birth photography definitely comes with it's own territory, but I have found it to be SO enriching and meaningful. Documenting these moments is why I love what I do—preserving a family’s first chapter with their newest little one is a gift I will never ever take for granted.

The day started with a text from mom saying her water broke! I told her to keep me posted throughout the day and to call me in when she reached a 5/6 in dilation. Minutes ticked, hours went by, and at 9pm I got the call to head to the hospital! Once there I was able to catch mom in labor with her supporting husband by her side. Just after midnight, beautiful baby M was born!

I went back and forth on whether or not to bring my flash set up, since the birth took place in the late hours of the night. I ended up opting out of it, because I didn't want the flash to be distracting to the parents and disturb baby once he arrived. And honestly I am so glad I did! Birth photography is about capturing the STORY, real, raw, and true. The fact that these photos are more dimly lit than my normal editing style pays tribute to the overall atmosphere of the night and the events that took place. During the delivery I tried my best to be a fly on the wall, while capturing the most important aspects of the birth, mom, and dad. It was such an honor being invited to such a monumental event for this beautiful family.
